Lara’s cafeteria is a rustic Italian café located in the heart of Finsbury Park. Owner Lara, grew up in Italy and has since taken her Italian roots to London to put an English twist on the food she grew up loving. Breakfast, lunch or dinner- Lara’s has an authentic dish for any time of the day. The Trezoro team recently sat down to chat with Lara and she gave us the inside scoop on her journey to opening her very own independent café-restaurant.
Lara was born to an English mother and an Italian father and has been in the food business all her life. Her father owned a catering business in Lake Como, Italy and she was involved ever since she can remember. Her experience in the industry and her multicultural origins were the seamless factors that led Lara to open a fusion restaurant featuring Italian/English cuisine. Open for just two years now, Lara’s is a cozy, international cafe where you can enjoy traditional and delicious home cooked meals.
Speaking of home cooked meals – Lara gave us the run down of her menu and even filled us in on some of her favourites. For a wholesome breakfast, try Lara’s take on a Full English complete with bacon, sausage, tomato, mushroom, fried eggs and toast. Coming in for lunch or dinner? Try Lara’s favourite – Mafalda Penne, a penne dish with pancetta, vodka and creamy tomato sauce. A fun fact about this plate is that it was named after a chef at her father’s first restaurant who taught her the recipe as a young girl. The menu doesn’t end there though; there are plenty of options to satisfy any pallet including homemade Panini, bruschetta, salads, pastas and secondi piatti (second plates featuring meat and fish). You won’t go thirsty either. Lara’s drink menu contains several types of Italian soft drinks, juices, hot and cold coffees as well as loose-leaf teas made in house. All items can be enjoyed inside the café or on the outdoor patio in warmer weather.
‘Food for love’ is the motto at Lara’s and represents the affectionate environment the café fosters. Recently, they hosted an event that was advertised on meetup, a website used to get locals together for gatherings happening in their area. ‘Eye Gazing & Italian Candle Lit Supper’ was an event targeted at singles in the London area and featured cooking from Lara’s menu, as well as snacks and wine. Each attendant gazed into the eyes of the person across from them for 4 minutes and then rotated onto the next person, creating a sort of blind dating. Lara plans to host similar events regularly, so keep an eye out.
As with all of our loyalty partners, Lara’s values their loyal customers and has started using the Trezoro mobile loyalty app (iOS and Android).
